Threefold is a time-traveling, multiversal twist on Tic-Tac-Toe.

Instead of playing on a single grid, you play across a timeline of boards. Traveling into the past can cause your move to echo through the future, or create a paradox that branches the timeline into a new universe. As more universes appear, the game becomes a growing multiverse of interconnected boards where a move in one place can completely change the state of another.

Threefold also includes several modifiers that fundamentally change how the game works:

  • Flip // Pieces can be flipped, changing how winning lines are formed.
  • Quantum Superpositions // Past/future conflicts can be merged into quantum pieces instead of creating a new universe.
  • Tunneler // Move existing pieces through time and space instead of placing a new piece.
  • Soundproof // Disables normal move echoing through time.
  • Broken Clock — Past travel is restricted to wormholes.
  • Portal // Wormholes can cross the multiverse and can even create universes that don't exist yet.
  • Fourfold // Expands the board to 5×5 and changes the objective to four-in-a-row.
  • Multiversal Diagonals // Allows winning lines to connect boards across different universes and points in time.
  • Hypercube // Adds another dimension of entire games. Choose how many games make up the omniverse and play them one at a time in a perspective-projected 3D stack. The first player to win the required majority takes the entire omniverse.

Threefold is currently a work in progress, and many mechanics, UI elements, and balance decisions are still being developed.
